After an amazing, dream-come-true day driving north on Highway 1, we made our way to Carmel to meet up with our family for a 3-day reprieve from the motorhome. The girls were eager to play with their Colorado cousins again and we were all elated to have a break from the intense driving schedule.
The girls wanted to make a beeline for the pool. I, however, opted to open a bottle of wine and get acquainted with the comfy hotel bed—I was exhausted.
The entire clan met up in the parking lot the next morning to head to nearby walking paths at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. This was the first time that all nine grandkids had all been together—ever! A long overdue photo opportunity! The shaded path led us toward an ocean overlook to view sea lions. It was a beautiful nature walk and within minutes of returning to the hotel, the kids were back in the pool.
That weekend was the midpoint and highlight of our RV adventure. . . the wedding! We all traveled by shuttle bus to the venue in Big Sur. My husband was serving as Best Man and our daughter was flower girl, both looked stunning! The rest of our little family followed suit on the color scheme, so we all coordinated in our navy-blue formalwear.
The landscape in Big Sur served as a beautiful backdrop for the stunning bride and groom. It was a lovely evening with family and new friends. The food was a phenomenal banquet fit for a king and the girls danced the evening away as the band played some familiar favorites.
The entire weekend was spent with family celebrating the happy couple. On Sunday, our little family broke away from the pack for a few hours to tour the Carmel Mission Basilica’s museum and its impeccably landscaped grounds. It was a beautiful stop that refreshed our spirits as well as we paused in prayer at the altar of the chapel.
Our next destination was just a few miles down the road at Saddle Mountain Ranch campground for two nights. We, of course, were camping in our motorhome and the rest of the family was “glamping” on the grounds in different accommodations. More swimming, beach time, and soaking up the California scenery ensued.
After an amazing five days spent with family, the time had come to begin our descent back to Ohio. But we still had several more days of adventures ahead. The story continues. . .
